Ten convicted of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has convicted ten people for perpetrating the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing hurtful comments about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of up to eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A persistent false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their complaint states that Owens brushed aside any factual proof disproving her claim in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has regularly repeated these assertions on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would bet her whole career on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she taught at his high school.
The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
